Women in ReligionDuring the debate in the Episcopal Church over whether or not to allow a homosexual bishop, a woman was presenting the argument against allowing a homosexual bishop. She stated that the Bible declares homosexuality to be wrong, which it does. If she really believed what the Bible said than she would have been quiet about church matters. In the New Testament the books of I Corinthians, I Timothy, and Ephesians women are told to just plain submit and do it quietly. In addition to dressing modestly they are to submit to their husbands and God. They are also to remain quiet regarding church matters. How can individuals say this is a book containing God's divinely inspired word and then only follow sections that are convenient at the moment? Doesn't that seem slightly off? A tad hypocritical? The Need for Biblically Minded EngineersThere is a great need in the world today for engineers who think and work from a Christian worldview. These engineers are needed to design, prototype, develop, and manufacture goods that support family economies, as opposed to city-corporate-paper economies, which strain the traditional family. Yet we know it must be fulfilled sometime within the next few years, or other prophecies which directly hinge on it will not be able to be fulfilled. This prophetic anomaly revolves around how, and when, Israel will regain absolute jurisdiction over The Temple Mount long enough to allow them to build their Third Temple. After all, according to the book of Daniel, there will soon arise a world leader who will desecrate the Temple mid-Trib. Therefore, it logically must be assumed that in order for him to carry out this treachery, a Temple, complete with all Temple worship priestly activities in operation, must first be erected on The Temple Mount! Jesus is Lord: Lets Stop Usurping His RolesIn five words Paul enunciates the basic principle of the Christian life: "You are not your own" (1 Cor. 6:19). Some of the Corinthian Christians were acting like they were autonomous, as if their lives had not been bought and paid for with the precious blood of Christ. Because they ignored thisprinciple, they were practicing sexual immorality. Paul tells them that instead they ought to "glorify God with your body" (v. 20). But this principle has broader applications than just sexual purity. You are not your own boss. Because we are Christ's, we are highly motivated as workers--it is the Lord Christ that we serve (Col. 3:24). This means doing all that is expected of us, and more. We will be honest and trustworthy because we love and respect Him who is our ultimate boss. You are not your own banker. Both our ability to make money (Deut. 8:18) and our possessions themselves are gifts from God, so that we can be generous on every occasion (2 Cor. 9:11). Since our money belongs to Another, we learn to be content with it or without it, by Christ's strength (Phil. 4:11-13). You are not your own lawyer. The old proverb, "He who represents himself has a fool for a client," could never be truer than in heaven's court. If we stand alone in that docket, we will surely be condemned (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). But thank God, we have an Advocate with the Father, who is effective, forHe pleads the merits of His own life and His death (2 Cor. 5:21; 1 John 2:1-2). Wise clients will follow the advice of their lawyer. Boss, banker, lawyer-in all of these roles and more, Christ is outstandingly successful, and you and I are miserable failures. Let's listen to Paul and stop trying to usurp these jobs. To do so is to insult the Lord who can do them so much better. Making Merchandise of Christians ? Prosperity Gospel BlightAnyone who has read their Bible would have to concede in principle at least that it does say that God loves to bless his children. It also does promise that if we are giving individuals we should expect to have many wonderful blessings returned to us as a result. These promises are unquestionable. Christ said that if we gave that men would give to us good measure pressed down and running over, Luke 6:38. The principle here is not in question; it is the use, and or rather the misuse of this principle that causes all the trouble. Anyone trying to prove that the Bible does not promise God's blessings to the generous giver would come up woefully short. So how does this doctrinal new kid on the block, the abundant life gospel, succeed in the wake of its highly suspect proponents and their methods? The Gospel According to the Americans - Our ShameAs a deist, Thomas Jefferson may have thought God was indifferent, but gospel twisting preachers and theologians of the day seem to think God is a clown. One preacher appears regularly on television pushing his book entitled?How to be Rich and Have Everything You Ever Wanted. He insists that if people would pay their vows (an Old Testament concept) that this would begin to happen. It goes without saying that payment must be made to him. The blatant emphasis on the business of tithes and offerings among some churches has become a shameful blight but shows no signs of abating. All Knowledge and Wisdom Comes Direct From GodThese next set of verses are the heart and soul of this entire subject matter. All of these verses are telling us that all knowledge and all wisdom come direct from God and Jesus. The first verse will tell you that all the "treasures" of wisdom and knowledge are "hidden" in God the Father and Jesus Christ. Notice that God is comparing knowledge and wisdom with "treasures" and that this treasure is hidden within Himself. |
